Evergreen Bollywood actress Rekha celebrates her 54th birthday today. In 1966, when Rekha was only 12, she started her career as a child artiste in a Telugu film Rangula Ratnam. She went on to act in more than 180 films in a career spanning 42 years.

From 12 to 54 - 42 years of reigning over Bollywood and counting. I was recalling some of her most interesting and impressive roles and songs picturised on her. I loved her acting in many movies like, Khoobsurat, Ghar, Ijazat, Khoon Bhari Maang, Aastha, Silsila, Suhag, Umaro Jaan and Utsav. I liked her composed and calm persona as Maharani Mandira or Mandy in Zubeidaa.

But I didn’t love her in Kudiyon Ka Hai Zamana, because she shouldn’t have accepted a stupid role like the one she played in this movie. She looked good as Hritik Roashan’s mother in Koi Mil Gaya and later his granny in Kkrish. Her club song Kaisi Paheli Zindagani from Parineeta came up very well. Therefore we can say that from the Gaon ki Gori look in Sawan Bhadon to her present status as the eternal Bollywood diva, Rekha certainly has worked hard on her looks and performance throughout her acting career.

Now, Rekha will be seen in director Raj Kanwar’s Sadiyaan, in which she is paired with Rishi Kapoor.
